Mr. Oh Ui Hwan is a preeminent,
recognized expert on the Rules of Golf
internationally as well as here in
Korea. He has an exemplary record
of service to the Game and has
officiated at many championship events.
A passionate golfer, Chairman Oh has a
profound respect for those who manage
and serve the nation's golf courses.
The Chairman has kindly volunteered to
instruct this Rules workshop in order to
help improve the understanding of the
rules by those who condition and provide
the playing conditions of Korea's golf
courses.
He has served as the Chairman of
the Rules of Golf and as the Chairman of
the Game for the Korean Golf Association
(KGA) for many years.

Steve Wilson has two decades of
experience in golf course fleet
equipment management.
A lifetime in golf (his family owns a
course in Canada) and more than 15 years
experience in the Japanese market alone.
He served As the National Fleet Manager
for Pacific Golf Management (PGM) in
Japan and had oversight for all
management, purchasing and personnel for
the golf car and maintenance equipment
fleets for over 100 golf courses.
Steve lives and works in Asia.
John has been personally involved in
over 200 golf courses in 22 countries. His travel (averaging one
international flight a week since 1991) has provided him a wider
on-site experience than any other irrigation designer in Asia or
Australia.
John comes from a background of
computing applied to engineering and project management. His early
days were spent at Ralph Sarich's Orbital Engine Research. After
leaving there in 1989, his career has covered all facets of water
management; irrigation, drainage, management and construction.
From 1991 to 2001, John resided in
Singapore. From this base, he established Hydroscapes Pte Ltd (the
Singapore sister company of the Australian Hydrogold Pty Ltd) as the
foremost water management consultancy involved with golf courses in
Asia. That base remains today.
Mr.
Kim Jay is a
respected irrigation designer in Korea and internationally.
He will bring a useful technical knowledge on the critical
importance of proper design and installation of irrigation
systems. Mr. Kim will provide information on the correct,
modern way to design, purchase and properly install golf course
irrigation for the long-term business economics of operating a
golf course. He is also experienced in dealing with
troubleshooting inadequate systems.
Mr. Lee is an
accomplished Golf Course Superintendent, author and speaker in Korea
and serves as the Superintendent for two of SKY72's championship
golf courses: The Lake Course and The
Classic Course located at the Bada complex. He
has served as the Chairman of the Education Committee for the GCSA
of Korea and holds a Masters Degree from university. Mr. Lee
will jointly present information on pesticide labeling information,
mixing, chemical handling, safety and health, international and
Korean standards along with Mr. Prusa of SKY72.
Dr. Sowmya (Shoumo) Mitra
is the Syngenta Asia Pacific Regional Technical Lead for Lawn and
Garden based in Singapore.
His primary responsibility includes coordinating regional
development projects for new active ingredients and technical
support for commercial control products in the lawn and garden
organization which includes turf, ornamentals, vegetation
management, professional pest management, aquatics, vector control
and the consumer business. Shoumo comes from a diversified technical
and commercial background.
Before moving to Singapore he was the Global Technical Manager for
Turf based in Basel. His primary responsibilities included
coordinating global development projects for new active ingredients
for control products in turf and providing strategy for global
research & development activities for the turf business.
Prior to joining Syngenta he was a Professor in the Plant Science &
Technology Department at the California State University Pomona,
U.S.A. with both teaching and research responsibilities. He taught
several classes including weed science, turfgrass physiology, soil
science, soil fertility and fertilizers. His research has been
focused on turfgrass environmental stress physiology mainly
environmental stress management, soil and water quality, soil
fertility and fertilizers, fate of pesticides, chemical and
biological control of weeds, biochemical detection of herbicide
injury on turfgrasses, and water conservation with wetting agents.
His research program has been funded by industry partners, water
agencies, the United States Golf Association (USGA), U.S. National
Turfgrass Evaluation Program and the Environmental Research
Institute of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America
(GCSAA).
As a consultant, he has done extensive product development research
for leading industry players and has spoken at various international
conferences. Before joining academics Shoumo held positions of
product manger and product development manager in the private
industry.
He received his M.S. in Weed Science/Agronomy and Doctorate in
Environmental Soil Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst. He has over 90 science peer-reviewed publications and other
scientific publications.
He has also received over a dozen honors and awards from different
organizations like the ¡°Outstanding Young Scientist¡± award from the
American Chemical Society (ACS)-Agrochemicals Division in
recognition of his research with herbicide resistance, Excellence in
Research Award from the Gamma Sigma Delta, the honor society of
Agriculture and the ¡°Industry Innovation¡± award from the European
Society of Agricultural Engineers for his work on fermentation and
delivery of bacterial inoculants for disease control and plant
growth promotion.
June
Park serves as a regional representative for Nicklaus Design in
Korea. He has travelled
extensively to renowned golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and
is familiar with many aspects of these designs. June Park is a
regular, respected and well received visitor to Nicklaus courses
throughout Korea providing
client support services. He has played a key support role in
the development of Nicklaus Design courses in Korea including the
SKY72 Ocean Course, Jack Nicklaus Golf Club of Korea,
Bear's Best Cheongna,
Donneako Country Club, Gapyeong Benest Golf Club, Hunest Golf
Resort. And is involved with new designs of Keoje Golf Club,
Ariul Golf Resort & Spa, Yeoju Grand CC, Shin Do Golf Club.

Jim Prusa serves
as director of the SKY72 golf courses. Mr. Prusa has been
involved with numerous deign and construction projects in the United
States and Asia. His original interest in Golf Course Design
allowed him to initiate a long-term Master Restoration Plan for the
famed
Alister McKenzie golf course 'Pasatiempo'
beginning in 1977. He will present the history and evolution
of Golf Course Design and its importance to Golf Course Maintenance.
Prusa originally
outlined and created this seminar as a two (2) day course in 1982
while serving as Director of Education for the GCSAA and retained
Geoff Cornish and Robert Muir Graves -- two famed Golf Course
Architects -- to teach it for several years. This seminar was
later presented at Harvard University, School of Design in the late
1980s and early 1990s. This year's seminar is based upon the
same original seminar created by Prusa in order to provide
golf course superintendents and others a better understanding and
respect for the impacts of golf course design.
