A. 챔피언십 대회 준비 – 농경학 & 규칙   Championship Preparation - Agronomy & Rules

이번 세미나 과정은 골프코스 관리 직원들이 국제 투어 골프 코스 컨디션 기준, 계획, 모범사례, 시행 그리고 전문 투어 대회를 집행할 수 있는 토너먼트 관리방안에 대하여 숙지하기 위한 것 입니다. 또한, 발표자들은 챔피언십 대회에 따른 코스 준비에 대한 그들의 개인적인 경험과 전망들을 제공할 것 입니다. 

This seminar module is intended to familiarize golf course maintenance personnel with the international tour golf course conditioning standards, planning, best practices, execution and tournament management that goes into conducting a professional tour event.  Speakers will also provide their personal experiences and insights in preparing courses for championships.  Three highly experienced 'tour event' superintendents here in Korea will each present their 'lessons learned' experiences and how tour standard preparation of golf courses can be modified to improve overall golf course conditions.  Each will provide a 15-20 minute overview followed by questions and answers to the panel.

이 세미나는 KLPGA측의 발표로 이루어지는 적절한 코스 준비, 골프 코스 세팅 적용 규칙, 코스관리자와의 상관관계 그리고 투어 대회를 위한 코스 마케팅 준비에 관한 섹션이 포함 되어 있습니다. 

Least we forget, the fundamental position of the golf course superintendent is extremely important to golf only because it is all about the game of golf and not just about 'growing grass' -- and the game is defined by the Rules of Golf.  Therefore, this seminar will include a section presented by the officials of the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) on proper course preparation, applicable Rules of Golf for course setup, tour inter-relationships with the superintendent, how superintendents can better prepare for course marking for tour events, the importance of keeping focused on the tour players, and also will provide insight into their experiences working on the LPGA Tour.

참석자들은 일반 플레이와 토너먼트 대회에 적용할 수 있는 수준 높은 챔피언십 대회 준비에 대한 작업(업무)이해를 할 수 있을 것 입니다.

Attendees will gain a working understanding of championship preparation at the highest levels that can be used to improve conditions and golfer enjoyment for regular play and member events.

B. 코스관리자를 위한 골프코스 디자인   GC Design for Superintendents

디자인 워크샵은 서양뿐만 아니라 골프코스관리자의 환경이 되는 한국 그리고 아시아의 골프 코스 디자인의 역사와 발전에 관한 지식정보를 제공하기 위한 것입니다. 해당 주제는 각기 다른 디자인 전략, 디자인 컨셉, 코스 관리의 중요성 그리고 최초의 디자인 의도에 대한 보존 계획을 다루게 될 것입니다. 참석자들은 복잡한 디자인의 특징에 대한 이해와 깊은 존경심 그리고 골프 코스 설계가와 코스관리자의 관계를 유지하는 역할을 습득할 수 있을 것입니다. 

The design workshop is intended to provide knowledge information on the history and evolution of golf course design, in the West as well as in Korea and Asia, as background for golf course superintendents.  This seminar will provide golf course owners, superintendents and all involved in the golf course business a greater understanding of this technical field so as to avoid the usual pitfalls and mistakes in the design or renovation of golf courses.  Subjects covered will include the different design strategies, design concepts, importance of maintenance and planning in supporting and preserving the original design intentions.  Attendees will gain a greater respect and understanding for the complexities of design and the role of the golf course superintendent and maintenance in the relationship with the golf course architect.  Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the nuances of golf design and a better understanding of the key role of the golf course architect. 

C.  골프코스 사업 커뮤니케이션  GC Business Communication

오늘날 한국에서는 전세계의 골프사업과 마찬가지로 골프 코스관리자가 단순히 ‘잔디 관리인’이 되거나 ‘원예 지식’에 만 초점을 두는 것으로는 충분하지가 않습니다. 오늘날 골프 운영은 골프코스 관리자가 그들이 운영상으로 필요한 소유권, 관리, 고객, 회원들 그리고 그들의 직원들과의 효율적인 의사소통을 형성하기 위해 골프 사업에 관한 폭넓은 이해를 갖는 것을 요구하고 있습니다. 오늘날 골프코스관리자는 부분적으로 과학자, 회계사, 홍보 전문가, 인력관리자 그리고 의사소통 전문가가 되어야만 합니다. 이 세미나는 코스관리자, 오너 그리고 총지배인이 재정적 성과와 코스 컨디션 모두 향상 시킬 수 있는 골프 코스 관리에 대한 교육과 정보를 효율적으로 제공하고 그밖에 사람들의 요구를 바람직하게 경청할 수 있도록 비즈니스 커뮤니케이션을 개선할 수 있는 현실적인 방법과 예시들을 제공할 것 입니다.

Today in Korea, as throughout the world of golf, it is simply not enough for a golf course superintendent to be simply a ‘grass farmer’ or to focus primarily on 'horticulture knowledge.'  Most failures in the business of golf course management are not so much due to lack of technical expertise in 'turfgrass management,' but most failures by managers are due in one way or another to poor business communications.  Golf operations today demand that golf course superintendents have a wider understanding of business in order to effectively communicate their operational needs with ownership, management, customers, members and their staffs. Today's golf course superintendent must be part scientist, accountant, teacher, artist, public relations specialist, farmer, marketeer, negotiator, people manager and professional communicator.  This seminar will provide practical methods and examples of how golf course superintendents, owners and general managers can improve in their business communications to better listen to the needs of others and to more effectively provide information and education about golf course management that will improve their passion for golf, financial performance and course conditions. 

D.  코스장비 관리  Fleet Equipment Management

Having efficient, cost effective, well-maintained and properly operated capital equipment & machines for golf course maintenance is essential for profitable survival today in the Korean golf business today more than ever.  The senior SKY72 Fleet Equipment managers will address current issues on purchasing of new equipment, ‘aftermarket’ repair parts options in Korea, assessing course needs, preventative maintenance.  Additionally, ‘SKY72 Certified Trainers’ will conduct equipment ‘Operator Certification' and 'Trainer Certification' (Train the Trainers) training on typical mowers and machines found on Korean golf courses.

E.  잔디 영양 관리  Turfgrass Nutrient  Management

한국 골프 코스에서 가장 큰 지출 중 하나는 시비비용과 관련되어 있습니다. 전세계적으로(아시아 뿐만 아니라) 상당수의 잘못된 정보들이 있으며 비료, 성분, 식물의 필요조건 그리고 실제로 필요한 사항들에 대한 기술적인 이해에 관한 많은 부분이 무시되어 진행되고 있습니다. 너무 자주 비료를 구매하고 시비를 실시하는 것은 필요하지 않으며 잔디에 아무 소용이 없습니다. 최근 몇 년간, 잔디에 실제 필요한 영양소에 대한 다양한 연구결과는 옛 생각과 낡은 관행들을 변화시키고 있습니다. 이 세미나는 참석자가 잔디의 건강한 컨디션을 개선할 수 있도록 사용할 수 있는 정보를 제공하고 동시에 버려지는 오염물질을 절감하고 전체적인 비료 구입비를 줄일 수 있는 확실한 정보를 제공할 것입니다. 아시아의 마이카 우즈 박사는 골프 코스 운영에 대하여 자주 일어나는 잘못 이해한 부분들을 보면서 잔디성장에 실제로 필요한 사항들이 무엇인지 좀 더 깊게 이해할 수 있도록 현실적인 정보를 제공해 줄 것입니다.

One of the greatest expense areas on Korean golf courses is related to the costs of fertilizer applications.  Globally (and not only in Asia) there is much misinformation and far too much ignorance regarding the technical understanding of fertilizers, formulations, real plant requirements and actual needs.  Too often fertilizers are purchased and applied that are not needed and are of no use to turf.  In recent years a wealth of research into the actual needs of nutrients for turfgrass has changed old thinking and antiquated practices.  This seminar will present solid information that the attendees can use to improve the healthy condition of turf while at the same time cutting down on wasteful pollution and reducing the total costs of purchasing fertilizers.  Asia's Dr. Micah Woods will present practical, take-home information to give deeper understanding of exactly what the real needs are for turfgrass growth in this too often misunderstood area of golf course management.

In order to control the growth rate of the grass and to ensure turfgrass plants are as healthy as possible, turfgrass managers must ensure that all essential elements are available to the grass in just the right amounts. This is complicated on golf course putting greens or any turf grown in or topdressed with sand because these rootzones have relatively low nutrient levels. In this presentation, Micah Woods will explain how to estimate which and how much of the nutrient elements are required by the turf, how much is available in the soil, and how much is required as fertilizer. Using these techniques, turfgrass managers can be confident that they are applying enough nutrients to meet grass requirements, without making unnecessary applications of elements that will not have an effect on turfgrass performance. Woods will explain how to estimate the grass use of macronutrients (N, P, and K) and secondary nutrients (Ca, Mg, and S) throughout the year. Based on the amount of each element used by the grass, he will describe how the amount required as fertilizer can be calculated.

F.  화학제품 살포 장비 측정  Spray Equipment Calibration

골프코스에서 살충제 사용은 오늘날 골프 코스 운영에서 또 다른 매우 큰 소비 부분입니다. 오늘날 정확하고 균일한 양으로 알맞은 화학품(농약)을 살포하는 것은 매우 중요한 일입니다. 실수나 낭비를 할 여지가 없습니다. 이 세미나는 다양한 살포 기계를 정확하게 측정하기 위해 올바르고 이해하기 쉬운 방법을 가르치고 보강해줄 것입니다. 참석자들은 매우 복잡한 작업들로 인해 두려워하는 것들을 간단하게 정리 할 수 있는  살포장비에 대한 측정 방법에 대해 더 나은 이해를 할 수 있을 것입니다.   

The application of chemical pesticides on golf course is another very large expense item for golf course operations today.  Today it is essential to get exactly the correct chemical applied in precise and uniform amounts.  There is no room for mistakes or waste.  This seminar will teach and reinforce correct and understandable methods to accurately calibrate various spray applicator machines.  Attendees will take home a better understanding of sprayer calibration that simplifies what is often feared as being a very complex task.

G.  농약 살포기 교육   Chemical Applicator Training

살충제와 관련한 기술은 더욱 새롭고 효율적인 제품으로 급격하게 변화하고 있습니다. 농약 살포를 위한 계획, 지시, 관리 감독 하는 직원들은 새로운 정보들을 끊임 없이 최신의 상태로 하는 것이 중요합니다. 이 세미나에서는 한국에서 사용이 가능한 새롭고 현대적인 농약의 구성형태 및 다양한 형태로 구성되어 있는 농화학 제품의 보관, 사용, 흡수형태와 현대적인 농약의 기작, 보조제로서의 계면활성제 사용, 혼합 살포시에 화학제품의 물리적인 형태 및 살포 형태(물 분자)에 대해서 집중적으로 다룰 것 입니다. 추가적으로 인건비를 절약하고 살충제의 효능을 개선할 수 있는 비교를 통한 적용 방법, 정확성 그리고 효율성에 관한 중요한 정보들이 제공될 것 입니다.

The technology of chemical pesticides is rapidly changing with new and more effective products becoming available.  It is essential that all personnel who plan, direct, supervise and make chemical applications remain current and constantly up to date with new information.  This seminar will focus on the emerging, modern formulations of pesticides in Korea that have become available, the placement, absorption and retention of various formulation types of pesticides chemistry, modes of action of chemicals, the use of adjuvant wetting agents, as well as the spreading (of water droplets) and chemical physical behaviors of spray-mix solutions.  Additionally important information will be provided on comparative application methods, accuracy and efficacy that can save labor costs and improve pesticide effectiveness.

H.  관개 전문가 교육  Irrigation Technician Training

올해, 존 프라이어가 다루는 관개용수 세미나 과정은 작년에 제공된 관개용수 세미나 프리젠테이션에서 추가되어 진행될 것 입니다. 참석자들은 그린 관수, 관개 시스템 보수, 펌프장과 수압 분배에 관하여 좀 더 배울 수 있을 것입니다. 참석자들은 낭비와 소비를 피하면서 골프코스의 관수시스템을 개선할 수 있는 방법을 배울 것 입니다. 참석자들은 이번 세미나에 그들의 실제 관개시스템 자료의 복사본을 소지하여 참석하기를 제안하는 바입니다. 

This year’s irrigation seminar module presented by John Pryor will add to knowledge provided in last year’s irrigation seminar presentation.  Attendees will learn more about irrigation of greens, irrigation system renovations, pumping stations and hydraulic distribution.  Attendees will learn to improve irrigation to golf courses while avoiding waste and cost.  It is suggested that attendees bring a copy of their irrigation as-built to this seminar.

버려진 물을 사용가능하고, 조경이나 골프코스에 의해 사용 가능하거나 재순환하여 바다에 유입되도록 안전한 폐수로 변환하는 하수 처리장의 견학이 이루어 질 것 입니다. 이 견학은 참석자들이 시설물로부터 버려진 물의 화학적 성분과 물리적 과정에 의해 골프 코스에 미치는 영향을 알 수 있도록 참석자들의 이해에 도움을 줄 것입니다 – 특히 각각의 정수 처리 단계와 결정 단계에서의 잔디 생육에 대한 영향. 참석자들은 충분한 신뢰와 전반적인 이해를 얻게 될 것입니다. 참석자들은 관개용수나 사용 목적을 위해 폐수를 재활용 할 수 있도록 방법을 찾을 때, 처리된 물에 대하여 갖고 있던 궁금한 사항을 해소 할 수 있을 것 입니다.

This will be a tour of a sewage treatment plant that converts waste water into useable, safe effluent for use by landscapes and golf courses or recycling into the ocean.  The tour will improve the understanding of the attendees so that they know the impacts to golf courses by the chemical and physical processing of waste water in such facilities – specifically the impacts on grass growth of each water treatment step and processing decision.  Attendees will gain greater confidence and overall understanding.  Participants will learn what important questions to ask about treated water when they are using or seeking to use effluent water for irrigation of a golf course.

국내의 수질 기준에 대한 세미나 참석자의 이해를 돕고자 정수 처리장 견학을 계획하고 있으며, 일반적인 정수 처리장에서 물에 대한 가공 방법 이해와 정수 처리장 시설을 직접 볼 수 있는 시간을 준비하고 있습니다. 우리는 실제로 사람이 먹을 수 있는 물의 가공과정을 확인하고 기본적으로 관계된 화학적 성질의 좀더 나은 이해를 얻게 될 것 입니다.

Arrangements are being made to take a brief tour of the potable water treatment plant in order to provide attendees a better understanding of water quality standards in Korea, an understanding of the processing methods at a typical water plant and learn of the challenges that water treatment operators face.  We will actually see the processing of water for human consumption (and domestic use) and gain a better understanding of the basic chemistry involved.  Potable water is the foundation of what is recycled and processed by sewage treatment plants and the fundamental water quality chemistry of the resulting effluent water that is often used for golf course irrigation is initially established by the primary, potable water.
